The presidents of Russia and USA Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama briefly spoke on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Peru’s capital Lima, reports Reuters citing eyewitness interviews. Later, the fact of the meeting of the two leaders was confirmed by Putin’s press Secretary Dmitry Peskov.

On Sunday evening Moscow time in Lima, began the first working session of the summit. “In the beginning of the meeting they (Putin and Obama) greeted each other and briefly spoke,” – said Peskov.

About the topic of conversation according to the White house of the United States. Reuters , citing data from the administration reports that Obama urged Putin to adhere to the implementation of the Minsk agreements describing the steps for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. In addition, Obama called for further contacts at the level of foreign Ministers to resolve the situation in Syria.

After the first meeting of APEC will be held the ceremony of photographing, and then the second meeting. At the end the leaders will adopt a final Declaration, which will reflect the agreed approaches of APEC economies on development cooperation. For Barack Obama, this summit – the last as President of the United States. In January 2017 on this post it will replace the US President-elect Donald trump.
