Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with the head of the International football Federation (FIFA), Gianni Infantino, during which they discussed the issues of preparation for holding in Russia of the confederations Cup and world Cup. In particular, the head of state assured that all defects in the construction of “Zenit Arena” in St. Petersburg will be eliminated before the end of the year, reports TASS.
“This is a very sad story,” acknowledged Putin, speaking about the problems with the stadium on Krestovsky island. The President stressed that this is not the biggest unfinished in world sport. He also noted that Moscow is a remark of FIFA in this stadium. “The builders promise to fix everything by the end of this year”, – said Putin.
The head of state assured Infantino that all of the stadium, which is scheduled to hold the matches of the confederations Cup and the world Cup, will be built in time. Putin stressed that Russia will strive to ensure that the confederations Cup in 2017 was a great event.
At the same time, he expressed regret that I can not personally be present at the draw of the confederations Cup. “I’m sure everything will go the best way,” hoped the President.
Infantino, in turn, said looked forward to the opportunity to meet with Kazan, which will host the draw. According to the UK investigators together with employees UFSB and Webirc, the Ministry of internal Affairs of Northern capital has established the fact of theft in 2014, more than 50 million rubles at the conclusion of the General contractor, ZAO “IC “Transstroy” contract for the supply of screens for stadium with joint-stock company “TDM”, which Oganesyan, being Vice-Governor and responsible to the construction industry, including the construction of the stadium, was illegally brought in as a subcontractor.
In the case of fraud also pass the former first Deputy Chairman of the construction Committee of St. Petersburg administration Alexander Ancic, who signed the documents for transfer of the advance, Grigory Popov, who was the real leader of TDM and the staff of the joint stock company Elena Kovalev and Artem Kuspit. Regarding the construction of “Zenit Arena”, 16 November it became known that the Petersburg authorities and the FAA “Glavgosexpertiza of Russia” by mutual agreement terminated the contract on carrying out examination of project documentation for construction of the stadium on Krestovsky island. This is because the terms of coordination of documents with law enforcement agencies exceeded the term of the contract for examination. It is expected that the next hitch will not affect the expected period of putting the stadium in operation on 25 December of the current year.
Recall, the stadium is unfinished “Zenit arena” started to build in 2008. Over the years, its estimates increased by almost seven times – from 6.7 billion to 42 billion rubles. Since August, the new General contractor of construction is assigned to JSC “metrostroj”, controlled by Smolny. The former contractor filed several lawsuits to the city.
To deliver the project on time, Smolny approved a plan for the transfer of 2.6 billion rubles from the construction of hospitals and schools for the completion of “Zenit-Arena”, where there should be the matches of the 2018 world Cup. In late October, the FIFA inspectors, hopped on the new stadium, came to the conclusion that playing it is impossible. Contractors started to solve this problem. Meanwhile, the city authorities have already announced that, in order to bring the arena in line with UEFA requirements (which are tougher than FIFA) to Euro 2020, which will require additional billions of dollars in costs.
