The presidents of Russia and Iran Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani have discussed by phone the ceasefire agreement in Syria and preparations for the talks in Astana. The leaders agreed to continue close coordination of efforts in resolving the Syrian crisis, said on Saturday the press service of the Kremlin.

“Noted the importance of agreements on the cessation of hostilities in Syria and the launch of the negotiation process in Astana. They agreed to continue close coordination in resolving the Syrian crisis”, – stated in the message.

Also, the two leaders exchanged congratulations on the occasion of New year, reports RIA “Novosti”.

The Rouhani administration at the end of the conversation he said that the Iranian President was welcomed by a previously installed across Syria truce, Reaffirming that Moscow, Tehran and Damascus are working together on this issue.

29 December, Putin announced the signing of three documents governing the truce. The first is between the Syrian government and the armed opposition ceasefire in Syria from 30 Dec. The second is a set of measures to monitor the ceasefire. The third statement about the readiness to start peace talks on the Syrian settlement.

On Thursday evening held a telephone conversation with Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. One of the main topics discussed by the leaders, was preparing to run in Astana negotiations on the Syrian peace settlement. It is expected that the new site will complement the Geneva talks.
