Actors Robert De Niro, Tom Hanks, Robert Redford, musicians Bruce Springsteen and Diana Ross, as well as famous sportsmen, architects and others awarded the highest civil award of the USA – the Presidential medal of Freedom.

The award, which is annually awarded to the American President along with the congressional medal for achievements in the field of security, culture, national interests of the United States and other outstanding achievements, presented in a White house ceremony, Barack Obama personally.

This year the award was given to 21 people: in addition to the above, this is the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan, the basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar TV host Ellen DeGeneres, the founders of the charitable Foundation bill and Melinda gates, one of the greatest contemporary architects, Frank Gehry, architect, sculptor and designer Maya Lin, an engineer and software developer of the space program “Apollo” Margaret Hamilton and others.
