Midfielder Moscow “Spartak” Roman Shirokov will be the captain of the Russian national team in the qualifying matches of the European championship against the teams of Sweden and Liechtenstein.
“Today at the first meeting of the Russian national team ahead of the qualifying matches of the European championship in 2016 against Sweden and Liechtenstein coach Leonid Slutsky announced the name of the team captain. They will be the midfielder of “Spartacus” Roman Shirokov”, – stated in the message of the press service of the Russian football Union (RFU).
Vice captains appointed midfielder “Dynamo” Igor Denisov and defender of CSKA Vasily Berezutsky.
The match Russia – Sweden will be the fifth of September in Moscow and kicks off at 19:00 Moscow time. Meeting Liechtenstein – Russia will take place in Vaduz on 8 September and kicks off at 21:45 Moscow time.
On Monday the Russian national team began training camp in preparation for the qualifying matches. To the agreed deadline in place there were all summoned to the team players.

After checking in to the hotel the team had dinner and then a meeting. Acting President of the RFU Nikita Simonyan and CEO Alexander Alaev introduced the team’s new head coach and wished him luck in the upcoming matches. Leonid Slutsky told the players and staff about the nuances of the preparatory and training process.
Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. the team will host the first training on “Arena Khimki”. It will be completely closed to the media.
