19-year-old American striker of the club “Toronto maple leafs” Oston Matthews became the first player in the history of the National hockey League (NHL), who managed to score four goals in a debut game.
This historical event happened in the opening match of the regular season against the “Ottawa senators”, which took place on Wednesday at Canadian Tire Centre.
Matthews scored three goals already by the 22nd minute of the match, and to do this he took only three shots. The fourth goal he scored against three seconds before the second break.
As notes a press-service of the League, with the 40-ies of the last century, three hockey players were observed by three goals in their first games: RIL Cloutier (“Quebec nordiks, 1979), Fabian Brunnstrom (“Dallas stars”, 2008) and Derek Stepan (“new York Rangers”, 2010).
