In Russia continue to grow vodka sales and declining beer sales. In 10 months of 2016, the proportion of vodka sold is 38.4%, while in 2015, for the same period was 37.7%, according to the report “Socio-economic situation of Russia” for January – October of 2016 published on the website of Rosstat.
In January – October, the Russians bought 78,9 million decaliters of vodka and liquors. The figure for the same period last year was 41.7 per cent. Sales of this drink for the first 10 months fell by 3.7%, to 666,7 million decaliters, said “Interfax”.
The share of wine (excluding champagne and sparkling wines) in January – October was 10.3% (10.2% for 10 months last year). Wine sales for this period decreased by 1.3% to 69 million gallons.
The proportion of champagne and sparkling wine for 10 months amounted to 2.2% (2.3% in the same period of 2015). The sale of this wine fell by 4.9%, to 16 million gallons.
While sales of cider, Poiret, Mead, and similar beverages jumped. For 10 months people were sold 3.5 million gallons of cider, Poiret, Mead, and other alcoholic beverages of natural fermentation, which was 38.2% more than in the corresponding period last year. The share of these beverages in absolute alcohol was 0.3% versus 0.2% in January – October of 2015.
However, as noted by RBC, the share of these beverages in General alcoholic balance of Russia is negligible. In the first 10 months of them in terms of pure alcohol account for only 0.3% of the total bought by Russians of alcohol compared to 0.2% in Jan – Oct 2015.
Just in this period, the Russian population bought 80,2 million decaliters of alcoholic beverages (in absolute alcohol), which is 2.2% lower than a year ago. In October, sales fell by 3.9%, to 7.7 million decaliters.

As a rule, really no one believes either wine or beer. Therefore, in the period of crisis increases the consumption of strong alcohol – legal or not.
