Russia leads in the export of coriander and has a chance to the end of the year to capture up to a third of the world market, reports TASS with reference to the press service of the Russian export centre (REC).
According to the report, over the past nine months, Russia managed to export more than 40 thousand tons of this herbaceous plant, which in Russia is more commonly known as “cilantro” or “coriander”. This number is significantly higher than last year.
“For eight months of 2016, Russia exported more coriander than for the entire 2015 as a whole (43.5 thousand tons of coriander vs. 31.5 thousand tons for 2015 and 9 THD. MT in 2014),” – said the REC.
The main market for Russian coriander, is India, where it goes 58% of exports. In addition, the seasoning comes to Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Indonesia, Europe and the Middle East.
In 2015, Russia is among the largest global suppliers of coriander and ranked second after India.
