The international Association of athletics federations (IAAF) could allow Russian athletes to participate in the winter championship of Europe in the room, which will be held from 3 to 5 March 2017 in Belgrade.
About it journalists were reported by the President of the Russian athletics Federation (vfla) Dmitry shlyahtin.
“We expect the new criteria of admission, which will soon be forthcoming. I think that in the winter Championships of 2017, our athletes will be able to participate on individual applications” – quoted by TASS Slatina.
The head of wfla also reported that the IOC removed the criterion on which the Russian sportsmen have to live abroad to participate in international competitions. According to him, the athletes can live in Russia, but should undergo independent doping tests.
“The criterion of sportsmen abroad is removed, – quotes the words of an official of the Agency “R-Sport”. They can live in Russia, but should be independently tested”.
This criterion was introduced before the 2016 Olympics after the report of the independent Commission of the world anti-doping Agency (WADA) under the leadership of Richard McLaren. As a result, Russia in Rio was represented by only one athlete Darya Klishina, who lives in the United States.
We also recall that in November 2015, after the first report of the independent Commission WADA, the IAAF Council took a decision on suspension of membership of the club in the IAAF. Was established inspection team, which was tasked to assess the progress of the reform of the wfla.
Sanctions banning Russian athletes from participating in any international competitions, is still in effect and can be removed in November.
