A short film about the Holocaust “Brutus”, filmed with the support of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia, was included in the extended list of nominees for the award “Oscar”, reports “Interfax” with reference to the press service of the FJC.

“Nice to know that the Committee is the world’s largest film lately prefers the paintings, which touched upon the Second world war and the Holocaust. This will certainly help to draw the viewers ‘attention to the acute problem of national and religious intolerance and the terrible consequences of its manifestations”, – commented the President of Federation Alexander Boroda.

He noted that the film was an international team. Starring famous Russian actors Oksana Fandera and Philip Yankovsky.

The picture, which is based on a story by Czech writer Ludwig Ashkenazi, the second part of the film almanac “Witnesses”, which consists of three novellas representing an unusual view of the Holocaust. In this story the cruelty of the human world through the eyes of a dog named Brutus.

Worked on the film cinematographers from Belarus, Israel, Moldova, Romania, USA, Ukraine. As noted, the members of the crew are directly related to the tragic events of the mid-twentieth century. Thus, almost all relatives of the Director of FAM on the maternal side were killed in Belarus and Ukraine during the war years, the operator Giora Beach is the son of former prisoners of Auschwitz and Terezin, the co-producer of the almanac Yury Toy – the son of a Righteous among the Nations of the world (this title since 1953, is awarded in Israel to non-Jews who saved Jews).

The first Novella anthology called “Shoes” was released in 2012 and was awarded various awards at film festivals. The short film were also nominated for “Oscar”. The third movie in the series, “Violin”, is currently filming in Belarus.
