The men’s team of Russia on tennis for the first time in its history, won the Junior Davis Cup, after beating on Sunday in the final of the world team Championships previous holders of the trophy from Canada with a score of 2-1. Both teams made one point in a single meeting: Timothy Rays beat Nikas Muamba (6:4, 6:1), and Alain Avidzba lost to Felix auger-Aliassing (6:2, 3:6, 4:6). In the decisive doubles match Avidzba and Alexei Zakharov defeated auger, Aliaska and Sneeze Chi Juan with the score 6:2, 6:4.
This success became for Russia first, even though the USSR team won the Junior tournament in 1990. Adult, Davis Cup was surrendered to the Russians twice, in 2002 and 2006.
