A citizen of Russia and Armenia escaped from captivity national liberation Army (ELN) of Colombia, seizing the weapons of the rebels, when they drove him to transfer to the peacekeepers. This is reported by the militants themselves on the website of the organization.

“From the Russian Embassy in Colombia, through the international Committee of the red cross (ICRC) was received asking to release (a hostage). On the basis of this request was initiated to prepare for (his) release. However, on April 19 at 11 a.m., a man attacked his guards, took their weapons and seriously wounding five,” from the text.

According to ANO, the fugitive was also wounded during the shooting. Currently his whereabouts are unknown.

It is reported that escaped the man’s name is Arsene Baskaran. He was arrested in Colombia on 5 November 2016 at catching poisonous frogs for their further sale on the international market.

The Russian Embassy in Bogota has not been able to confirm or refute the information about the escape, reports RIA “Novosti”.

Army of national liberation (ELN), Colombia’s second largest rebel group in the country after the Revolutionary armed forces of Colombia (FARC). The ELN was established in 1964.
