Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov commented on the appointment of the permanent member of security Council of Russia Boris Gryzlov, Moscow’s special representative in the contact group on Ukraine. According to Peskov, it increases the level and shows responsible strengthening Russia’s presence in the negotiations, reports TASS.

“This is a significant increase in the levels and significant strengthening of our presence in the responsible work,” – said the representative of the Kremlin, adding that Gryzlov was appointed “on the initiative of the President”.

“This is critical because the permanent members of the security Council – these are people who directly take part in the discussion of the main policy areas in the development of these areas and their implementation”, – said Peskov.

This Peskov said that the implementation of the Minsk agreements is “in very poor condition”. He noted that the appointment of Gryzlov stressed “the importance it attaches to the implementation of the Minsk agreements, in spite of what is done with the implementation of this document”.

The contact group coordinates position in the peace process, regulated by the Minsk agreements. At the previous meeting on 22 December, the participants agreed on the schedule for January 2016. The next meeting of the contact group will be held on 13, 20 and 27 January.

Boris Gryzlov from 2003 to 2011, he was the speaker of the state Duma of the Russian Federation, then worked in the security Council. In 2014 was included in the sanctions lists of the EU, Canada, Australia and Switzerland, made up and filled up after the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
