Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nadia Savchenko spoke about his trip to Moscow for the appeal in the case of Ukrainian nationalists Stanislaus Cliche and Nicholas Karpuk. “I came back from hell alive, again,” wrote former prisoner of the Russian colony on his page in Facebook.
According to her, the most important event of the trip for her was meeting and conversation in the court Karpyuk and Klahom who participated in the meeting via video link. “In his last words Nikolay said: “a Russian court judge me for what I am Ukrainian, because I am a patriot of Ukraine, and for the fact that I’m not afraid!” I Nicholas instructed: “do Not send me tearful letters. You do for all of Ukraine, what should… we do not pay attention. All the will of God…” – said Savchenko.
“These are the words of a strong man. Nicholas – a true patriot, to fight, as well as for all Ukrainian prisoners and captives,” – said the politician.
Visit Savchenko in Moscow on 26 October. On this day, the Supreme court considered the appeal against the sentences to Ukrainian citizens Mykola Karpiuk and Stanislav Klychu who were sentenced to long terms of imprisonment for participation in the fighting during the first Chechen campaign.
According to investigators, Stanislav Klyh and Mykola Karpyuk in late 1994 and early 1995, fought against Russian forces in the armed forces in Chechnya. On may 26, 2016, the Supreme court of Chechnya recognized Karpyuk and Cliche found guilty of participating in the fighting. Karpyuk was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison, Cliche to 20 years in prison. The Supreme court of the Russian Federation at the meeting on 26 October left the sentence in force.
Attorney Savchenko about the trip: “First braked on the highway Minsk-Moscow, and in the end did not let in Russia”
On the eve of the arrival in Russia Savchenko has recorded a video message in which he said that travels to Moscow to support the Ukrainians, realizing that may not return from Russia alive.
The lawyer Savchenko Ilya Novikov described the trip in Facebook: “Savchenko first three hours stopped in a car on the highway Minsk-Moscow, and in the end did not let in Russia, then she decided to return to Minsk and to fly. And in between we had a selection of documents on her and the Belarusian-driver, a window into a languid two hours entirely without communication, the expectation of the edge of the Colonel who left for the border to solve the issue of the Smolensk. Return to Minsk, flight to Moscow, another sudden and unusual cordon at Sheremetyevo on a flight with cordons never was. And only at 8 am arrivals hall and a taxi.”
After reports about the arrival of Savchenko in Russia, some Ukrainian Internet users were quick to accuse her of collaborating with the Kremlin. Mark Feigin, the lawyer of another Ukrainian, Roman Sushchenko, who was detained in Russia, said that despite the desire Savchenko to help her spontaneous visit to “harms in the Affairs of other Ukrainian political prisoners,” reports NEWSru.ua. In his opinion, due to similar actions in other Ukrainian citizens may be “illusion” that there is nothing to fear, then they can lose caution and to arrive in Russia, where “any one of them could be arrested and or convicted”.
In turn Novikov said that Karpyuk and Klyh Savchenko thanked for their support. In addition, he noted that “thanks to her, to the point Karpyuk and Cliche today is dramatically more attention”.
