Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova plans to play in several exhibition tournaments prior to the completion of the period of Ineligibility, TASS reported in the company IMG, which represents athletes.
“Maria is planning to compete in several exhibition tournaments, – said the Agency interlocutor. But while we can’t confirm exactly what it will be competitions. Also we can’t call the first official tournament in which Maria will perform after the completion of the period of Ineligibility. Of course, she trains at the moment”.
Sharapova was suspended from January 26, 2016 for two years for use of prohibited substances. As reported by the athlete at a special press conference in March, in her sample, which was taken during the Australian Open in 2016, was discovered Meldonium.
Court of arbitration for sport on 4 October has reduced the suspension of tennis players from 24 to 15 months. Sharapova will be able to participate in official competitions from 26 April 2017.
In early October, Sharapova took part in a charity tournament in Las Vegas.
