The Lenin district court of Smolensk issued on September 29 its verdict in the criminal case initiated against police officers Paul Gerashchenko, Nikolay Smolin and Dmitry Gutnov. They were convicted of “protection racket” of drug traffickers, and possession of drug directly in the building of the police Department, namely in the gym.

According to the decision of the court which have been guards will be imprisoned for between seven and 10 years each. Serve time they will be in the correctional colony of strict regime, reports the official website of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation.

Furthermore, prisoners subject to additional punishment in the form of fines totaling more than 90 million rubles.

As follows from the materials of the criminal case, in may 2014, the police received from drug traffickers 300 thousand rubles in bribes “for General support and the failure to prosecute”. After that bribe-takers in uniform were detained by employees regional UFSB and UMVD employees of orch SB.

“Subsequently in relation to detainees, as well as two other police officers, one of whom by this time was transferred to the interior Ministry of Russia in Samara region, depending on the role of each was prosecuted for taking bribes, excess of powers of office and illegal circulation of narcotic drugs, fraud, theft and robbery,” – said in a press release.

Established that police officers repeatedly accepted bribes from drug traffickers in size from 210 thousand to 500 thousand rubles. All in all, they had been paid more than three million rubles.

“In a course quickly-investigative actions it was established that the defendants kept at the premises of the gym’s locker room one of the administrative buildings of Ministry of internal Affairs across the Smolensk region with the aim of further sales of 16 kinds of narcotic drugs, including heroin, methadone, cocaine, marijuana and amphetamines with a total mass of more than 240 grams,” – said the Prosecutor’s office.

Detainees, guards found guilty under part 5 of article 290 (“bribe reception”), h. 1, 3 of article 286 (“Excess of powers of office”), part 4 of article 159 (Fraud), part 4 of article 158 (“Theft”), part 3 of article 30, part 4 of article 228.1 (“Attempt at sale of drugs”), part 5 of article 33, part 4 of article 228.1 (“aiding and abetting in the sale of drugs”), part 4 of article 228.1 (“Sale of drugs”), part 1 of article 161 (Robbery) of the criminal code.

We will add that another police officer, suspected of drug trafficking, detained in Khabarovsk Krai. Criminal punishment for a 29-year-old man. He is charged with part 3 of article 30, paragraph “d” of part 4 of article 228.1 of the criminal code of Russian Federation (“Attempt at sale of drugs”), according to the official website of the regional Department of the RF IC.
