Russian tennis player Elena Vesnina nominated for the Women’s tennis Association (WTA), “Comeback of the year”, the press service of the organization.
30-year-old athlete started the year 111th in the rankings, but during the season managed to reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon in singles. In addition, in a pair of Ekaterina Makarova Vesnina has reached the finals of the French Open and became the Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro. She now holds the 19th position in world ranking.
In the fight for the title Elena will have to compete with Slovak Dominika Cibulkova, American Vania king and Shelby Rogers, and Anastasia Sevastopol from Latvia.

The only Russian, who got this award, was winning cancer Alice Kleybanova (2013). Last year the award was won by American Venus Williams.
