The national Olympic Committee (NOC) of Italy formally withdrew the candidature of Rome to host the Olympic games in 2024.

“Today I wrote a letter to the international Olympic Committee, which withdrew our candidacy to host the Games in 2024″, – quotes Reuters the statement of the head of the Olympic Committee of Italy Giovanni Malaga.

The head of the NOC of Italy convened a special press conference to confirm the decision is final and will not be changed.

Thus, to host the Games-2024 there are three contenders – Los Angeles, Budapest and Paris. The winner will be announced in September 2017 on the Congress the IOC in Lima. The next summer Games will be held in Tokyo in 2020.

The newly elected mayor of Rome VA Raja had earlier said that the Olympics will hit the economy of the Eternal city, where the already numerous utility problems. Soon this decision was ratified at a meeting of the city Council.

The bid Committee with the support of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi has so far continued its work.
