The captain of Mexico’s soccer Rafael Marquez on Wednesday appeared in the Mexican Prosecutor’s office to testify. This was announced by General Prosecutor of the country.
Earlier the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against him for alleged involvement in activities of a drug cartel created by Raul Flores Hernandez.
“Mr. Rafael márquez álvarez voluntarily came to the Prosecutor’s office to testify, – reads the statement of the Supervisory authority. – Going investigation.”
Sanctions were imposed against Marquez-related organizations, including the football school that bears his name. The U.S. Treasury noted that the player had “a longstanding relationship with Hernandez”, including financial. He also allegedly represented the interests of the cartel and its leader.
Marquez was the captain of Mexico’s soccer four world Championships, he is the champion of the national teams by number of appearances.
