The U.S. Congress approved a bill on sanctions against Russia for supporting Assad
Earlier, on may 18, it became known that the house of representatives of the U.S. Congress adopted the billproviding introduction of sanctions against allies of President Bashar al-Assad. In accordance with the bill, the new sanctions could be imposed against Iran and Russia.
The bill requires to impose sanctions on the forces that support the regime of Syrian leader. In particular, sanctions can be imposed against persons involved in sale or transfer the Assad regime weapons and military technologies, or provide financial assistance to Syria. In the case of the adoption of the document the US President will be obliged to impose sanctions within 30 days.
As justification for the imposition of sanctions, the document States about the numerous human rights violations by the Syrian authorities headed by President Bashar al-Assad. Only the text of the bill referred 47 persons who, in the opinion of Congress, are responsible for human rights violations in Syria.
