The court of appeals for the Second circuit in new York denied the convicted Russian citizen Viktor bout in the review of his case. The court found that the lawyer of the citizen of the Russian Federation of new evidence for reconsideration of the sentence booth is not enough. About it reports “Russian service of BBC”.
Lawyer Aleksey Tarasov earlier introduced new evidence: the prosecution’s key witness in the case of Russia – Andrew Smulian was not an accomplice of booth, a secret agent of the anti-drug United States, therefore, could not join in the opinion of counsel, in collusion with the citizen of the Russian Federation.
“The court’s decision, of course, disappointing. Once again American justice has shown bias in this case against a Russian citizen, whose rights and legitimate interests are violated by the American authorities”, – said the representative of the Russian foreign Ministry on human rights Konstantin Dolgov, reports RIA “Novosti”.
Viktor Bout was arrested in Bangkok in 2008 and then extradited to the United States. He was accused of conspiracy to commit sale of a large consignment of weapons to Colombian group FARC, which is recognized in America as terrorist. In 2012, the Russian was sentenced to 25 years in prison. At trial, Booth pleaded not guilty.
