The defense Ministry denied the statement of the chief of the General staff of Ukraine about the alleged left in Belarus after the joint exercises “West-2017,” the Russian troops. This was stated on Saturday by the official representative of the defense Ministry, major-General Igor Konashenkov.

The chief of the Ukrainian General staff Viktor Muzhenko said in an interview with Reuters that Russia has troops left after the exercise in Belarus, despite the promise not to do it. He argued that in Russia after the exercise returned only “a few units” of troops and military aircraft, for which the “300-400 km is not a distance.”

Konashenkov at a briefing for journalists on Saturday, said: “as to Russian forces participating in joint strategic exercises “West-2017″, everyone returned to the places of permanent deployment”.

Large-scale exercises “West-2017″ provoked a storm of criticism and suspicion from the Western neighbors of Russia. NATO stated that their actual number was greater than claimed, which is restricted so as not to invite observers. In the Baltic States pointed out that the exercises were not defensive: they were trained to act in conflict with NATO.

Russian President Vladimir Putin was satisfied with the maneuvers. “During his visit to one of the fragments of these exercises in the Leningrad region, the President is very positive about the progress and effectiveness of these maneuvers,” – said the press Secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov.
