The President of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia (FJCR) Alexander Beard appealed to the head of the Duma Committee on civil society development issues, public and religious organisations Sergey Gavrilov for the return of the faithful of synagogues in the regions of Russia, reports “Interfax-Religion”.

“In some regions this issue lasts for years, and its solution requires active support at the Federal level”, – said Alexander Beard.

In response Gavrilov noted that “traditional religions have vast experience in social and charity work and the state makes sense to take it on Board”. He also touched on the topic of assistance to prisoners often do not have the opportunity to meet with representatives of the clergy of different religions.

In response, Beard stressed that the FJC for many years has been active in educational activities in places of detention, to prisoners sends food parcels. Rabbis visit convicted persons in jail are equipped with prayer rooms.

Recently it was reported that Beard had called the authorities – especially the regional – actively address the issue of the return of Jews taken away during the Soviet years religious property.
