Ten Russian regions are considered critical for the spread of HIV among the population, was announced by the Minister of health of Russia Veronika Skvortsova reporters November 10.
“There are 10 regions critical in the first place – Sverdlovsk oblast, Yekaterinburg, which has hit the press in recent times”, – quotes its TASS. According to Skvortsova, in these subjects, “the prevalence is significantly higher than in other regions.”
According to data from the Federal center for prevention and fight against AIDS, the ten “critical” regions of HIV also includes the Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Samara, Orenburg, Leningrad, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk oblast and the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug.
According to Skvortsova, HIV prevalence is highest in the regions through which drug trafficking routes: “we Have 57% of all sources of HIV transmission is injecting the way, usually heroin addicts or analogues of heroin”.
