The Kremlin refused to give a rating published by the “Memorial” book of the NKVD during the Great terror
The Kremlin did not comment on the appearance on the website of the movement “memorial” directory with the names of the NKVD during the Great terror. However, the Kremlin’s press service noted that in itself this subject “very sensitive” and points of view on it at times diametrically opposed.
Press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov in response to a request of journalists did not comment on the publication on the website of the “Memorial” section with information about the NKVD in the years 1935-1939. “I will leave, perhaps, to make no comment on this issue”, – said the representative of the Kremlin.
At the same time, Peskov noted that “the topic is very sensitive, it is clear that opinions diverge here for many, there are diametrically opposed points of view, and those and others sometimes act very convincingly”. The head of the Kremlin press service reiterated that it will not “in this case, a position to Express”.
Previously on the website of “Memorial” appeared to “the staff of bodies of state security of the USSR. 1935-1939″, which is a database of thousands 950 39 the NKVD. The information that formed the basis of the electronic reference were collected by the researcher Andrey Zhukov.
The main source of information for the database was the orders of the NKVD personnel. We also used the documents of dead and missing during the war and subjected to repressions. The appearance of this Handbook is “a significant step towards a more in-depth and accurate understanding of the tragic history of our country in the 30 years of the twentieth century”, according to “Memorial”.
“Memorial” is a movement, whose main task initially was to preserve the memory of political repression in the recent past of the country. The organization conducts research of the history of political terror in the USSR, Gulag, socialist resistance and dissident resistance of the Khrushchev-Brezhnev era. In 1991, at the initiative and with the participation of the “Memorial” was adopted the Law on rehabilitation of victims of political repression.
