The largest banks of Russia has undergone powerful DDoS-attack, reports RIA “Novosti” with reference to the data of “Kaspersky Lab”, the largest Russian company in the field of combating computer viruses. According to the Agency, the attack was aimed at the five largest banks of the top 10. RBC reports that the facts of the attacks confirmed in Sberbank and Alfa-Bank. I was told that the Bank system coped with the threat, but differed in assessing its extent. What other credit organizations were attacked, not specified.

Series of hacker attacks began on 8 November in the afternoon and became this year’s first large-scale DDoS wave, says “Kaspersky Lab”.

The average duration of each attack was about an hour, the longest lasted nearly 12 hours. Some banks, according to the company, were attacked repeatedly – series from two to four attacks with a small interval. The source RIA Novosti, close to the Central Bank, argues that the power of attacks was moderate.

To attack the attackers used a botnet – a network of infected devices, which consists of more than 24 thousand cars. According to “Kaspersky Lab”, it included machines from 30 countries, more than half of them are on the territory of the United States, India, Taiwan and Israel.

In a press-service of the largest Russian Bank – Sberbank – has confirmed the fact of attack in several waves. The last took place in several stages, each of which was two times stronger than the previous. “The system of protection of the Bank worked reliably, the attack was quickly detected and localized by the cyber defence units of the savings Bank. The disruption of service to customers of the Bank was not”, – says the press service.

Also the fact of a hacker attack, confirmed Alfa-Bank. The credit organization stated that the attack was “quite short and weak” and did not affect the operation of the business systems.

The last series of DDoS attacks on big banks took place in October of 2015. Then was attacked by eight credit institutions. According to Centrance, from October 2015 to March 2016 21 recorded cyber attack on the payment system of the Russian financial organizations.

DDoS attacks (from the English. distributed denial of service distributed denial of service) called the creation of a large number of requests for a particular website, causing the server can not stand and the site opens with a large delay or at some time stops responding to requests.
