Publishing house HarperCollins has announced the release next year of the book the love story of a mortal man Beren and the immortal elf Luthien. This story is incredibly meant a lot to the author of Lord of the rings – so much so that the character names listed on the tombstone of John Ronald Rowell Tolkien and his wife Edith, reminds The Guardian.
The writer’s younger son, Christopher Tolkien, who had earlier finalized the draft and prepared for publication his father’s “the Silmarillion”, has decided to release the story of Beren and Luthien a separate book, using previously unpublished texts and fragments, which he had heard from his father.
Beren and Luthien originated in 1917, after Tolkien returned from the Somme, where he served as a signalman during the First world war. In “the Silmarillion” describes how people fell in love with the elf and sought her hand, despite the fact that father Luthien, the elven ruler who was against their marriage. Lovers had to go through terrible trials to be together, and perform impossible tasks elven king. One of the characters in Lord of the rings, elf ruler Elrond is a descendant of the legendary couple in the fourth generation, and his daughter, Arwen, repeats the fate of Luthien, refusing immortality for the love of man.
The book is about Berane and Lucien will be published in may 2017, the centenary year of the first mention of John Tolkien these characters, and 10 years after exit reconstructed by Christopher Tolkien of his father’s novel “Children of Hurin”.
