The Syktyvkar city court (Komi Republic) on Saturday arrested the mayor of Syktyvkar Ivan Pozdeev,
previously detained on suspicion in excess of powers of office. During the court session it became known about excitation of one more criminal case is on embezzlement.

“Interfax” reports that the judge granted
the petition of the investigator about the arrest of the official for two months. According to the resolution, Pozdeyev will remain in custody until 25 November.

Pozdeyev is accused of abuse of office in the allocation
land for construction of apartment houses in Syktyvkar. It is assumed that during operation in the regional administration he acted in the interests of JSC “building Materials”, which he directed. Also the officer could be charged for embezzlement for 9.9 million rubles.

The mayor of Syktyvkar was detained by law enforcement officers
on Friday. The criminal case against him is investigating regional management of FSB.

Pozdeev, the head of the administration of Syktyvkar since January 2011. Prior to that, he was Deputy head of Komi. His predecessor Roman Tenisheva on trial now on charges in several corruption cases.
