The Minister of defence of Poland, Anthony Macierewicz said that Egypt allegedly sold Russia “for a symbolic price of one dollar” of two Mistral helicopter carrier built in France specifically for the Russian Navy, and later purchased by Cairo because of the refusal of Paris to transfer them to Moscow. About it as informs Agency Associated Press, Macierewicz said yesterday during a parliamentary debate in Warsaw.
Later, the head of the Polish military Department told reporters that information about the sale of Mistral Russia he received from “reliable sources”, but other details are not resulted. On Friday, the Minister added that the failure of Egypt from this operation would be a benefit to the world and would be a good lesson for Russia.
The statement of Mazarevica came amid tense relations between Warsaw and Paris in connection with the cancellation of Poland transactions in the amount of $ 3.5 billion for the purchase of French military helicopters.
Meanwhile, Ambassador of Egypt to Russia Mohammed El-Badri told Interfax on Friday that he could not confirm information about the possible sale of Mistral Russia.
In turn, the “knowledgeable Russian source” also confirmed to “Interfax” the statement of the Minister of defence of Poland on the transfer of Mistral Russia. “This is clearly a political statement that has no basis in reality”, – said the Agency interlocutor.
France has signed a contract with Russia on construction of two Mistral helicopter carriers for the Russian Navy in the summer of 2011. In 2014, the Paris froze the supply of ships after the annexation of Crimea to Russia because of Russia’s policy towards Ukraine. In August 2015, the contract was terminated by the parties. Paris returned to Moscow, about 950 million euros and installed on the ships of the Russian equipment, and then France put the ships on sale.
Both Mistral acquired Egypt, the deal was concluded in Cairo in October last year. The first Mistral, renamed from “Vladivostok” as Gamal Abdel Nasser, was officially handed over to Cairo on 2 June 2016, the second ship, renamed from “Sevastopol” in Anwar Sadat – entered service with the Navy of Egypt on September 16.
Earlier it was reported that Russia and Egypt are discussing the supply of systems of communication and control to Mistral. This week, the Deputy Director of the Federal service for military-technical cooperation (FSMTC) Anatoly Punchy said , RIA “Novosti”that Egypt turned to Russia with a request for the supply of helicopters Ka-52K for Mistral.
“The customer is considering the possibility of formation of several helicopter squadrons. The exact number to be determined through additional negotiations,” he said.
According to analysts, Egypt may buy “Mistral” at least 16 Ka-52K and Ka-29/31. The ka-52K naval variant reconnaissance and combat helicopter of the new generation Ka-52 “alligator”. The machine is capable to destroy armored and unarmored equipment, manpower and air targets on the battlefield.
