Ukrainian authorities fear that the introduction of a visa regime with Russia will cause a massive acquisition of Ukrainian citizens Russian passports. As stated by the representative of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine, at present, too many Ukrainians work in Russia.
The TV channel ICTV, the recording of which can be viewed on YouTube, Director of policy and communications Ministry of Ukraine Alexei Makeyev said that in the case of the introduction of visas in Moscow may take retaliatory measures, and then there will be problems, “millions of citizens who work in Russia.”
“They may be forced to return to Ukraine, first to get a work visa, then to obtain a work permit, explained Makeev. – Russia may say, what millions of Ukrainians it is not necessary to return to Ukraine – let them take Russian citizenship. Or the idea of introducing the visa regime is actually that we lost a large number of citizens of Ukraine?”
Before the Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that no objection to the introduction by Russia of visa regime. He even threatened more stringent measures. “The question is not whether a visa or visa-free. For example, I do not exclude that we will need even more hard events than the visa regime. The question is, what will we do, how it will affect our citizens in Russia”, – said Klimkin.
In August Klimkin claimed that the Ukrainian party may raise the issue of introducing a visa regime with Russia, but only if necessary. “If we introduce visa regime that will allow it to more effectively filter the agents of the FSB and other Russian special services who will work with our tension? Single answer I do not see here,” said the Minister.
He also answered the question of why keep diplomatic relations with Russia, “Here I am often asked: why keep diplomatic relations with Russia in the conditions of Russian aggression? The main point of these diplomatic relations is that we can help the Ukrainians, which in Russia more than four millions.”
