The Ministry of sport of the Russian Federation may be liquidated in the near future. The functions exercised by the Ministry of sport, tourism and youth will be merged into one Agency in direct subordination to the government.

“The Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev discussed the areas close to the sports and youth policy, tourism. We believe that it is necessary to combine the complex and commissioning supervision of this work, one Vice-Premier of the RF government”, – quotes “Interfax” the statement of Vladimir Putin made Tuesday at a meeting of the presidential Council of the Russian Federation on sports.

The name of the new leader was not announced. According to Putin, the government should make concrete, including staffing proposals in the near future.

The main contenders in profile Vice-premiers, the media called, the current Minister of sport Vitaly Mutko, who runs the magic since 2008, and head of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov. However, the latter has denied their claim for the post.

“I haven’t heard about it is hearsay and complete nonsense,” – said Zhukov to “Interfax” on Wednesday. However, he confirmed that he intends to leave the post of head of the ROC to focus on work in the Duma.

Recall that in its present form the Ministry of sports was established in 2012. Before that it was called the Ministry of sport, tourism and youth policy of the Russian Federation, and it consisted of divisions later allocated to the Federal Agency for tourism (Rosturizm) and the Federal Agency for youth Affairs (Rosmolodezh).
