The national Bank of Kazakhstan has presented a new banknote with the portrait of Nazarbayev (VIDEO)
The national Bank held a solemn presentation of new banknotes in denominations of 10 thousand tenge with the portrait of the current President Nursultan Nazarbayev. The event was held on 15 November at the conference in the Palace of peace and accord dedicated to the Day of national currency of this country, transfers TV channel “Khabar 24″.
A new payment instrument is issued in a limited edition of 100 thousand copies and will be released into circulation on 1 December. According to experts, the “presidential” bill has 10 security features including a watermark with the image of the President.
Along with bill, let 100 large and three thousand small souvenir coins are in denominations of 5000 tenge, dedicated to the anniversary of the independence of the country.
“One of the iconic symbols of independent Kazakhstan is the national currency, – said at the presentation of the Secretary of state of the Republic Gulshara Abdykalikova. – On this day 15 November 1993 due to personal participation of head of state in a difficult economic environment of Kazakhstan has put into circulation own national currency – tenge. This fateful and far-sighted decision laid the Foundation for the economic independence of the country.”
“The subject of placement of portraits on banknotes is not new, – said the Chairman of the national Bank of Kazakhstan Daniyar Akishev. – Moreover, it is the most striking, intuitive and familiar form of expression of ideas of nationhood through the placement of images of people who made the most significant contribution to the life of the country. Nelson Mandela, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, Winston Churchill, Lee Kuan yew and other world leaders depicted on the banknotes of their respective countries.”
Nazarbayev has been ruling Kazakhstan for a quarter century. The first popular election 1 December 1991 he was elected President of the Kazakh SSR, gaining 98,78% of the vote. One of the first steps Nazarbayev in this post was the signing of a law to rename the Kazakh Soviet socialist Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan of 10 December 1991, and after six days – December 16, 1991 – the Supreme Soviet of the Republic declared the state independence of Kazakhstan, that meant Declaration of the country as a sovereign state. In 2010, Nazarbayev was awarded the title of Leader (“the leader of the nation”).
