The new artistic Director of the ballet of the Moscow academic musical theater of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko as one of the most famous artists of the generation – 54-year-old Laurent Hilaire.

From 1 January 2017 he will take up his duties and will perform them for five years.

Born in 1962, Laurent Hilaire graduated from the ballet school l’opéra de Paris. At the age of 22 he got into her primary company, and Rudolf Nureyev, who at that time directed the Paris Opera ballet, Laurent called a “star” playing the part of Siegfried in “Swan lake”.

During his career, Hilaire participated in a large number of productions, was guest soloist of the Royal ballet UK, La Scala in Milan, American ballet theatre new York and the Berlin ballet.

In 2007, he bade farewell to the stage.

As notes “Kommersant”, this is the first time since the days of Marius Petipa, when the Frenchman was invited to lead the Russian troupe.

The former-Etoile was travelling around the world as visiting tutor and consultant on the ballets of Nureyev.
