German Angelique Kerber announced the Women’s tennis Association (WTA) winner in the nomination “player of the year”, informs a press-service of the organization.
This season, the 28-year-old Kerber won the Open Championships of Australia and the United States, and also reached the final of Wimbledon and won the silver Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.
Angelique interrupted 186 weekly hegemony at the top of the WTA rankings Serena Williams, surpassing the American in second place. Earlier it became known that Kerber is guaranteed to finish the year 2016 in the first place in the ranking.
“It is a great honour to finish the year in first place in the world. The lead is what I’ve always dreamed of. I worked hard to do their best. And this achievement is the reward for my work,” said Kerber.
Also became known the winner in a nomination “Returning of year”, which was claimed by Russian Elena Vesnina. The winner here was the Slovak Dominika Cibulkova.
