Pope Francis in honor of the end of the Jubilee year of mercy, which ended last Sunday, allowed the priests to let the parishioners of the Roman Catholic Church the sin of abortion during confession. This is stated in the Apostolic letter “grace and peace”, which was distributed by the press service of the Vatican.
“In order to avoid obstructions between forgiveness and God’s mercy, I now grant to all priests in their Ministry the right to forgive the sin of abortion”, – stated in the message of the Pontiff.
The Pope said that abortion is a mortal sin, because it leads to the interruption of innocent lives. However, he noted that there is no sin that is not governed by the mercy of God.
Until December 2015, the Vatican was allowed to forgive sin of abortion, only bishops and chief clergy of the diocese. During the Jubilee year of mercy, priests of all ranks were allowed to let go of this sin.
Note that in February of this year, Pope Francis, speaking to reporters aboard the plane on the way from Mexico, where he was on an Apostolic visit in a rigid form gave a description of the abortion.
“Do not confuse the sin protection from abortion. Abortion is not an ideological problem, but a human. Abortion is evil in itself, is a crime. Killing for salvation – so does the mafia. Protection is the lesser evil” – has declared then the head of the Roman Catholic Church.
