The Prosecutor’s office found no extremism in the words of Archpriest, comparing atheists with circus bears
The Prosecutor’s office refused to attraction to administrative responsibility of the Penza diocese of Russian Orthodox Church in the words of the Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on family matters, protection of motherhood and childhood Archpriest Dimitry Smirnov, who at a meeting with local clergy in Penza compared atheists with circus bears and urged women not to marry unbelievers, reports RIA “Novosti”.
According to senior assistant Prosecutor of the region Svetlana Artamonova, in June of this year the office has received the appeal of lawyer Eugene Moses, which demanded to bring Archpriest Smirnov criminally responsible for “extremist” article, and the Penza diocese to administrative responsibility on article on discrimination.
“It was assigned to study the sayings of the priest from the point of view of the content of extremist aggravating circumstances. Laboratory of forensic examinations conducted a study and concluded: no, I do not see they are there extremist statements. Therefore, the Prosecutor’s office of Leninsky district, having considered the appeal, dismissed the pronouncement of the resolution on initiation of administrative proceedings,” explained Artamonova.
She noted that the statement in part requests to initiate a criminal case was transferred to SK. “In part the request to prosecute, the Prosecutor’s office sent a statement) to the Investigation Committee for inspection in the framework of its powers”, – said Artamonov. As explained to journalists the senior assistant administrator of regional management SK the Russian Federation Lyudmila Fomina, pre-investigation check on this fact is currently not possible and has not previously been conducted.
The reason for the complaint of lawyer Eugene Moses in the law enforcement agencies became a text transcript of the meeting, Archpriest Dimitry Smirnov, with the clergy, published in February last year on the official website of the diocese.
“Being married to an atheist is like for a bear in the circus. Bear – an animal that three years is rejected. Even if it is a manual and is in the circus, he runs wild and can devour its trainer. He, as a person, maybe to ride a motorcycle, can turn somersaults, but after a certain period of time is dangerous”, – stated the priest.
During his speech, he emphasized that the atheist has no idea of marriage. “He has some kind of sexual attachment, and in this respect it really like a certain animal: met another and fell in love. He can love one, two, three, sixteenth. So happens. It has no brakes. Therefore, to marry such a dangerous,” explained FR.
Lawyer Evgeny Moiseev informed, explaining his position in a conversation with journalists, noted that, in his opinion, if the ROC makes responsible speak negatively about the Church, then she should be more reserved in their statements about, for example, the atheists, according to Life.
“It hurt my religious feelings. After all, the Russian Orthodox Church demands to bring to responsibility those who have a negative comments about Christianity and their faith. In that case, why the Church itself is not particularly chooses expression, speaking about atheists, for example? Because the law does not have to work only in one direction, it should apply to all, including the diocese,” – said Moiseev.
