The fight against hackers cannot be linked to the admission of athletes to participate in competitions. This was stated at a briefing Director of the Department of information and press of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in connection with allegations by the world anti-doping Agency (WADА) against the Russian Federation concerning Moscow’s involvement in the cyber attacks on the servers WADА.
Recall that the hacker group Fancy Bears released the results of hacking databases WADA. In the confidential documents whose authenticity is confirmed, it is indicated that a number of athletes permitted to take a prohibited substance for therapeutic reasons.
The Director General of WADA, Olivier Niggli expressed confidence that the cyber attacks coming from Russia in retaliation for the reports of Richard pound and Richard McLaren, to expose state-supported system of doping in Russia. Niggli called on the Russian authorities to do everything possible to halt the activities of hackers.
He stressed that cyber attacks will seriously disrupt the restoration of the rights of various sports federations of the Russian Federation, representatives of which are suspended from international competitions.
“This relationship is inappropriate – said in this regard, Zakharov, quoted by TASS. – How the issues of information security and anti-hacking link international officials with the restoration of participation of athletes in various competitions, is unclear. It is wrong to link the fight against cyber attacks with the restoration of the rights of athletes. These are questions from different categories.
The official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry rejected any suspicion of the possible involvement of Moscow to hacker attacks.
“For Russia, and the world, hackers, and hacking is illegal, they are prohibited by law of the Russian Federation, – said Zakharov. – Russia is fighting the hackers, we have the corresponding package of documents. We can influence this process by means of laws that we do, and other ways of influence on hackers for us does not exist.”
While Zakharova pointed out illegal activity WADА and vagueness of the criteria according to which athletes apply punishment.
“As for WADА, more and more each day no one understands the principles of operation and functioning of this organization – continued Zakharova. Every day matters to this structure becomes more and more the principles on which it works, which provisions it is guided in making certain decisions. This organization, as long as it aspires to such a role in world sports, needs to develop a clear, all clear criteria for its activities, based on international law, and not some very strange statements.
Russian special services are ready to make contact with WADA
The probability of obtaining the Russian intelligence services of the actual materials of the investigation of hacker attacks on the World anti-doping Agency is extremely small, reported on Thursday, RIA “Novosti” a source in law enforcement bodies, familiar with the procedure for such investigations.
The chance that any factual information from WADA is not received, it is estimated to be 97 percent.
According to the source, the data can be retrieved either if WADA have nothing to hide, which could find investigators, or if the Agency fears another more serious leak, or if it has real evidence of the involvement of the Russians to this story.
Russia will provide assistance to WADA in the fight against hackers
If the World anti-doping Agency (WADA) officially appeal to Russia with a request to help in the fight against hackers, Russia will provide such assistance. This was reported to journalists the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov.
“If we are talking about the request of help, of course” – quoted by TASS representative of the Kremlin, answering the question whether Russia is ready to answer the call of the anti-doping organization to halt the activities of hackers. Peskov said that it’s going to happen if this treatment will do.”
Press Secretary of the President emphasized that “Russia consistently supports the fight against cybercrime, consistently invites all States to international cooperation in this area.”
“The Russian position is well known,” he added.
