The US state Department ordered family members of employees of the American Consulate in Istanbul to leave Turkey due to the high probability of attacks on United States citizens by the extremists, according to Reuters.

“The state Department has taken a decision on the basis of the received information that indicates extremist groups continue to threaten American citizens in Istanbul, where their activity is particularly noticeable,” – said in a statement the foreign Ministry.

The U.S. Consulate in Istanbul remains open, and this order shall not affect any diplomatic posts in Turkey.

The state Department stressed that the order applies only to the US Consulate General in Istanbul, and no other American missions. “The Department of state continues to monitor how these events affect the security situation across the country”, – quotes the statement of the Agency TASS.

The state Department also reminded all Americans about the threat from terrorists and recommended to avoid travel in the South-East of Turkey.

In addition, the Agency is concerned about cases where American diplomats are faced with challenges when attempting to provide consular assistance to Americans detained by local security forces.
