The tourist industry of the year no Egypt: no alternatives were found, but major bankruptcies did not happen
“Closing” of Egypt for flights from Russia last year became a serious test for the travel business of Russia, but the industry managed to avoid major bankruptcies. This was told in conversation with Agency “Interfax” the press Secretary of the Russian Union of travel industry (PCT) Irina Tyurina.
“The companies in advance was paid for the entire season, deposits in hotels, which can now only be used after opening direction. Suffered heavy losses and the airlines,” she said.
“The tourist industry has demonstrated its ability to survive in very harsh conditions. With the second half of 2014, in time fell and the crisis, and bankruptcies, and the closure of two of the most mass directions – to Egypt and Turkey. The market has shrunk quite a lot, but all care companies were without any cheat tourists, the vast majority of cases the company went in a civilized manner. All the main players left in the market”, – said the expert.
Irina Tyurina recalled that in 2014, the unified Federal register of tour operators was 2050 companies operating in outbound tourism, now there are 721.
“While bankruptcies was not as scandals. Travel Agency market has declined at least 35%. Tour operators have reduced the number of employees by approximately 60%, reduced salaries, advertising budgets, etc., to withstand this difficult period”, – said the press Secretary of the PCT.
At the same time, according to General Director of “NTK Intourist” Victor Topolkaraev, replacing Egypt apart from other beach holiday destinations in the Russian market and have not found. “This is a rare combination of climatic conditions and price parameters. This ratio, especially for winter, the market is no more. Goa is inferior in the hotel base and market capacity. Thailand is a very different price level,” – said the expert.
Assessment the PCT, over the past 10 years Egypt below second place in popularity among Russians has never fallen. The first was Turkey, but Egypt was the main winter destination among Russians, experts remind the PCT (1 million 200 thousand Russians in 2015).
Now, the operators hopethat the opening of Egypt will indeed be held on the eve of the New year.
