The United States authorities do not see a constructive engagement of Russia in the fight against “Islamic state” (IG, banned in Russia as a terrorist organization). With the corresponding statement on Friday was made by the representative of state Department mark Toner.
“We said from the beginning that they are ready to welcome Russia’s constructive role in the fight against ISIS. But so far, we have never seen anything like it,” said Toner , “Interfax”. However, he stressed that most of the attacks by Russia, was aimed against the forces of the Syrian opposition, to support Bashar al-Assad.
As noted by RBC, similar view is echoed by the White house spokesman Josh Ernest. In his opinion, the actions taken by Russia correspond to the strategy for support of the Assad regime. “We would like Russia’s actions in Syria is consistent with its public statements”, he concluded.
Earlier the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to cooperate with the United States, despite the fact that Washington’s actions in this country violate international law.
“We are ready to cooperate with Washington, despite the fact that their actions in Syria violate international law – there is no relevant resolution of the UN Security Council, no appeals to the Syrian leadership,” – said the head of state.
He also once again confirmed Russia’s position, stressing that the fate of Syria needs to solve its people. “Syria is a sovereign country, Bashar al-Assad – President, elected by the people. So do we have a right to discuss such issues? Of course, no. Only those who feel their uniqueness, allow themselves to behave in such a shameless way, to impose their will,” added Putin.
We will remind, Russia started an air operation in Syria on September 30. In the Kremlin’s claimthat Russia is “at war with terrorism, which threatens us directly”, and information about non-selectivity strongly deny.
On 14 October it became known that the organization “Islamic state” has declared Jihad on Russia. After that, to unite against the Russians encouraged and prohibited in the Russian Federation “al-Qaeda”. Western intelligence agencies suspect the terrorists connected with Islamic state implicated in the collapse of the Russian aircraft over the Sinai.
