The new head of the Union of European football associations (UEFA) Slovenia Aleksander Ceferin, founder spoke out strongly against the idea of creating a continental super League instead of the Champions League. According to him, “this would lead to war.”
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Bayern Munich Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, with the support of the Association of European football clubs (ECA) has called for modernization of the Champions League. In his opinion, to replace the main competition should come Superleague, which would place only the teams from Italy, England, Spain, Germany and France.
“The creation of a European super League would lead to war. We are on the same side with the big clubs, and they do not want to act outside of UEFA. These clubs clearly understand what they have a problem, if they are separated from the rest. If such a tournament was easy, it would have already started”, – quotes Ceferin AR.
The Ceferin, founder, said that among the ideas for the modernization of the European Cup a lot of good, but innovation should not infringe upon the national League, because without them football would be dead.
