The Ukrainian authorities made statements on the day of the 76th anniversary of the tragedy of Babi Yar
President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Vladimir Groisman has published statements on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the tragedy of Babi Yar mass executions by the Nazis of Jews, Gypsies and prisoners of war in the tract on the North-West of Kiev, which began on 29 September 1941.
“Babi Yar is one of the deep wounds caused by the Holocaust. This is our common tragedy, especially the Jewish and Ukrainian peoples. Eternal memory to the innocent victims,” – said on the website of the President of Ukraine in Facebook.
“Today we remember the victims of one of the worst tragedies of mankind – the events in Babi Yar. The mourning day. It is our duty to preserve the memory of Babi Yar and pass it on to future generations. Only protects the memory from repeating the mistakes of the past,” – wrote in Facebook Groisman.
As reported by the website of the Kiev city administration, in connection with the events on the occasion of the anniversary until 12:00 in Kiev acted to change the route of public transport. Was also closed the exit from the underpass subway station “Vokzalnaya” to the monument to the victims of Babi Yar (odd side ulitsyi Melnikov).

On 29 September 1941 the German occupation administration ordered the “Yids of Kiev” to gather at the corner of Melnikovsky and Dehtiarivska streets (near the cemetery). In 2014 the current leader of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko at the ceremony of remembrance of the victims of the executions at Babi Yar promised “never allow recovery of fascism” in Ukraine. Speaking about the lessons of this tragedy, the Ukrainian leader said that today is a reminder to the world about how dangerous war and ethnic strife and how to appreciate the world. “Ukraine has received a powerful inoculation against fascism”, – said Poroshenko.
