The UN Security Council on Friday, 7 October, at the initiative of Russia will hold a meeting on the situation in Aleppo, Syria, which will discuss the proposal of the special envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura on the withdrawal of the militants of the terrorist organization “dzhebhat an-Nusra” (banned in Russia) from the Eastern part of the city.
As reported TASS in the permanent mission to the UN, the meeting is scheduled for 10:00 am new York time (17:00 Moscow time). The discussion will take place behind closed doors.
Staffan de Mistura on the eve offered to hold consultations on the withdrawal of militants “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra” from Eastern Aleppo to Idlib. According to the emissary of the UN, therefore, will put an end to the armed confrontation in this part of town, and its inhabitants will have access to humanitarian assistance. According to de Mistura, in Eastern Aleppo, there are about 900 militants “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra.”
As stated by the Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the initiative of the special envoy “deserves careful consideration”.
