The United States shares Russia’s concern extremism in Syria, but believe that Russia has achieved nothing in the fight against the terrorist group “Islamic state” (ISIS, ISIL, DAISH, banned in Russia). This was stated to journalists the press Secretary of the White house Josh Ernest.
Earlier, the US announced about the termination of bilateral cooperation with Russia on truce in Syria due to “failure to comply with their obligations by Moscow”. The Russian foreign Ministry said in response that the way Washington is failing to implement the agreement on Syria, trying to shift the blame on Moscow.
“Over the last seven months, Russia has not achieved any targets in the fight against ISIS, the achievement of which it could refer. Instead, they had to declare that they carried out a successful operation, which was conducted by the United States and our coalition partners,” said Ernest (quoted by RIA “Novosti”).
According to a spokesperson, the patience of the United States and “all others” about the actions of Russia in Syria “came to an end.” According to the representative of the US administration, the Russian side failed to rally the international community in the fight against terrorism in Syria. “We see that Russia is alone, working only with Iran, trying to help the Assad regime,” said Ernest, quoted by “Interfax”.
One of the journalists suggested that when assessing the success of the Russian military, you need to consider not only the situation with ISIS, and also, for example, strengthening the positions of Syrian government troops. But Ernest replied that, in his opinion, in this case, consider the question of the struggle against the extremists, as the Russian side claims that this is its task in Syria.
Permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin, commenting on the statement from the White house that Russia allegedly ascribes to U.S. success in the fight against terrorists in Syria, said he regards them softly (of speaking) as an indiscretion”.
