Trump was impressed by the meeting with retired General Petraeus, who the media considered a potential successor to John Kerry
The US President-elect Donald trump met with former CIA Director, retired General David Petraeus. According to a statement by billionaire on Twitter, communicating with a veteran made a strong impression on him.
The meeting was held at the tower “trump tower” in Manhattan. Petraeus himself told reporters that the conversation with trump lasted about an hour. He praised the knowledge of the elected President in foreign policy, noting the understanding of “diversity challenges”. However, he did not specify whether he offered trump a position in a future administration.
According to the Agency, Petraeus commanded multinational forces in Iraq in 2007-2008 and NATO forces in Afghanistan in 2010-2011. From 2011 to 2012, he served as Director of the CIA, but from this post he was removed from a scandal by the current President Barack Obama.
The reason for his dismissal was the fact that he shared classified information with his mistress, a journalist Paula Broadwell, a graduate of the military Academy at West point.
Experts believe that this scandal could spoil the prospects of Petraeus’s appointment to a position in a future administration. According to us media reports, the Ministry of defense is still conducting an investigation designed to determine who in the Ministry leaked the personal data of Broadwell, which became public.
In addition to Petraeus among the main candidates for the post of foreign Minister called the former presidential candidate in the US MITT Romney and former new York mayor Rudolph Giuliani. With Romney, trump needs to meet this week.
