Ukrainian authorities continue construction of the dam on the North Crimean channel in the Kherson region, in order to fully block water supply to Crimea. It is expected that all work must be completed by March 2017. The construction budget is 15.6 million (39.1 million roubles), the Agency UNN.
“Earlier in the Crimea was served water and was created by damming, and users had the opportunity to take water. Today we are in the water not served, and if the partitions no, the water will go to the Crimea. In 2014, we built a temporary wall of sandbags, but you know what is a temporary structure, built of the bags, ” explained the Director of the United Directorate of Construction of water facilities George Bushian.
According to him, if not to block the North Crimean canal, you may experience problems with water supply of agricultural producers of the Kherson region. Currently, the financing of the construction budget has not yet begun, so work is being done at the expense of the contractors, said Busen
“The documents are approved, we hope that the rest of the week will receive all funds, 11 million 600 thousand hryvnias”, – he said. In General, the construction budget will be 15 million 640 thousand hryvnias.
Bozian added that the construction is divided into two stages. The first is the construction of the “body” of the dam, which in all weather conditions must be completed before 1 January. The second phase includes the design and construction of buildings that do not directly affect the operation of the dam.
Earlier this week at a meeting of defense Council of Kherson region, which was held in the state administration, officials announced that the permanent dam will provide a substantial increase in irrigated land in the region, further development of rice cultivation, as well as flooding of some dried ponds for fish-farming needs, reminiscent of “UKRINFORM”.
“We have to finish the main structure to supply water. We understand that the irrigation season for rice farmers begins in April, and the North-Crimean canal is filled in March. That is, we have until March to provide a structure for supplying water via the North-Crimean channel,” said at the meeting, Busian.
The head of the Kherson regional state administration and Chairman of the Council of defense of area Andrey Gordeev, in his turn, reminded that this dam is under construction since last year. “It will provide us 7 thousand hectares of irrigation. We will get in Chaplynka district plus 7 thousand hectares in the irrigation, get the possibility of rice production in Kalanchak district and have the possibility of stocking ponds, that has been already dried up”, he explained.
In 2014, shortly after joining the Crimea to Russia, Ukraine has started work on the separation of the North-Crimean canal to the Peninsula. So on the road Armyansk – Kherson bridge near the village of Kalanchak were built , the dam of sandbags.
North Crimean canal is the largest in Europe waterworks. Its main purpose – the conveyance of water for irrigation and watering of Kherson region and Crimea. However, for a long time, the Dnieper water on the Peninsula is not received.
In Ukraine, claim that after the annexation of Crimea to Russia unskilled workers destroyed located on the Peninsula of the construction of the North Crimean channel. Besides, Crimea still not paid for have already been filed for its water needs, emphasize in Kiev.
The water demand of the Crimea 85% was provided from the North-Crimean canal. From this channel in recent years were irrigated more than 460 thousand hectares of farmland, of which nearly 102 thousand hectares in Kherson region, and about 360 thousand hectares in the Crimea.
Recall, the Crimea became part of Russia after the March 2014 referendum. Ukraine does not recognize the results of the people’s will. In Kiev believe the annexation of Crimea an “occupation” in the West “annexation”, which was the reason for imposing sanctions on Russia.
