Cossack songs are sung of Dnipropetrovsk in the Cossack communities of Dnipropetrovsk region and tell of the tragedies of war and personal experiences of soldiers-Cossacks. Songs serve to maintain spiritual ties with the past, but could also be entertaining. There are three groups of singers: Krynica Boguslavska and primrose, they are attended by both men and women. This tradition is maintained in families, but its survival is under threat due to advanced age of the performers and the lack of mentors for the training of new generations, said the Dnipropetrovsk portal Gorod.
As reported by the Ukrainian edition, the inclusion of the Cossack songs in the list of UNESCO – the result of multi-year project, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, Deputy of the Dnepropetrovsk regional Council Alexander Vilkul. “I thank the best experts of Ukraine and the world – scientists, musicians, historians, and everyone who helped us. And today she is rightly included in the List of urgent protection of the world intangible cultural heritage of humanity”, – said Vilkul.
