People’s artist of the USSR Vladimir Zeldin was buried on Thursday, 3 November, in Moscow with full military honors. The actor, who passed away at 102-th year, died next to Lev Durov at the Novodevichy cemetery.
According to TASS, during the funeral ceremony near the grave Zeldin has lined up the students. After the funeral, which was officiated by the Governor of the vysoko-Petrovsky monastery, hegumen Peter (Eremeev), the coffin under the sounds of military orchestra was lowered into the grave.
Earlier during the funeral held in the Central academic theatre of the Russian army, where he served Zeldin, him farewell thousands of people. Among the artists who gave their last honour was the Minister of defence of Russia Sergey Shoigu, the Russian President’s adviser on culture Vladimir Tolstoy, the Minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky, head of the Department of culture of Moscow Alexander Kibovsky, President of the Union of theatrical figures Alexander Kalyagin, the President of the Pushkin Museum of fine arts Irina Antonova, Director Yuli Gusman and others.
Zeldin died in scientific research Institute of emergency care named Sklifosovsky Monday, October 31. According to preliminary data, the cause of death of the veteran Russian stage was multiple organ failure.
Vladimir Zeldin mentioned in the Guinness Book of records as the world’s only a stage actor, appeared on stage at 100 years of age. It enters the troupe of the Central academic theatre of the Russian army.

Vladimir Zeldin was born in 1915 in tsarist Russia, his childhood and youth fell on the years of the revolution and the NEP, the youth fell on the Great Patriotic war. He is known for his film Ivan pyreva “swineherd and shepherd”, which was filmed in 1941. In 1945 Zeldin was invited to the Central theater of the red army. During his long creative career, he played dozens of roles on stage and screen. The actor starred in more than 40 films.
In 1975, Zeldin received the title of people’s artist of the USSR. He was thrice awarded the order of red banner of Labor, and was also awarded the order of Friendship, full cavalier of the order “For merits before Fatherland” (2000, 2005, 2010, 2015). Actor – laureate of the USSR State prize and RF government prize in the field of culture, he was also awarded the prize of the festival “Kinotavr”, Stanislavsky Fund, “crystal Turandot” and “Golden mask”. In the list of his theatrical works a special place was occupied by the popular Comedy of Lope de VEGA’s “dancing Master”, in which Zeldin has played over thousands of times.
